Following a national recruitment, the Scottsdale City Council has appointed Sonia Andrews as Scottsdale’s next city treasurer.

Andrews has been Peoria’s chief financial officer since April 2018, where she led the finance department and oversaw the city’s annual budget process. Prior to her most recent position, Andrews served as Peoria’s deputy finance director and was the chief financial officer in Bend, Oregon before moving to Arizona in 2014.

“Scottsdale’s financial management and outlook is of the utmost importance,” said Scottsdale Mayor David D. Ortega. “I am pleased that Sonia Andrews was appointed to assume these responsibilities.”

In Peoria, Andrews successfully negotiated development agreements to form two community facilities districts and structured and implemented metrics to improve Peoria’s customer call center. She also structured and issued more than $260 million in bonds and debt instruments.

“I am very honored and excited to be the new chief financial officer for the City of Scottsdale, it is truly a highlight of my career,” Andrews said. “I appreciate the Mayor and Council’s confidence in me as the City Treasurer has a great fiduciary responsibility for the city’s finances. I look forward to joining the Scottsdale team in serving the citizens of this amazing city.”

Andrews is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a master’s degree in business administration from Oregon State University. She is a member of the Government Finance Officers’ Association and an Arizona Border Collie Rescue volunteer.

Sonia Andrews will start as Scottsdale City Treasurer June 1.
