The City of Goodyear, Arizona is seeking an experienced water professional to oversee the City’s newly created Water Services Department. Reporting to the Deputy City Manager, the Water Services Director will oversee activities of the Water Services Department to provide a reliable, safe, and efficient water supply and wastewater services to meet the needs of this high-growth and dynamic community. The City of Goodyear is a full-service City with a total FY2023 budget of $650 million and a workforce of 904 FTE’s. A keen understanding of water issues in Arizona, California, and/or the Western United States is preferred in this position. The Water Services Department provides water, sewer, reclaimed water, and stormwater pumping utility services to more than 24,000 active water accounts. The Department has an existing staff of 89 that previously were under the Department of Public Works. The Director will work to achieve the strategic objectives of the Water Services Department and manage administrative and operational department matters, including budget preparation, personnel, purchasing, performance measures, and strategic planning.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of progressively responsible experience in the management of a medium or large public or private-sector public water or wastewater utility plus experience in issues affecting government. A Master’s degree is preferred. An educational focus on water resources is an added plus. Advanced credentials such as PE registration in the State of Arizona (or an out-of-state PE License eligible for reciprocity) may be a plus.
Annual salary for this position is up to $185,355 DOQ. Additionally, the City offers an attractive package including membership in the Arizona State Retirement System. Moving and relocation assistance will be offered to the selected candidate.
