The recently appointed San Bernardino County Fire Chief is assembling a forward-thinking executive team of professionals to assist in transforming this great organization into the nation’s finest.  The Fire Chief is seeking two dynamic, experienced, leaders to serve in the roles of Deputy Fire Chief of Administration Operations and Deputy Fire Chief of Emergency Operations. These two senior level positions will serve vital roles, assisting in the management of the day-to-day functions of the organization and will help to forge the future direction of a large, complex department while continuing to ensure protection of the County’s residents and visitors. The ideal candidates will be contemporary and progressive leaders with proven track records and reputations as strong team-oriented individuals who are well organized, possess superb interpersonal and communication skills, and have reputations for being creative, innovative, and strategic thinkers. The San Bernardino County Fire Department is an all risk/full-service fire department that covers over 19,000 square miles, operates 69 fire stations/facilities and provides emergency services to 64 communities, 11 cities and towns, and all unincorporated areas in the County (2.1 million population) with diverse service zones that include urbanized areas, mountains, forests, deserts, and rivers. The Department has approximately 1,000 firefighters, administrators, and support personnel and an annual operating budget of approximately $260.5 million for fiscal year 2019/2020.

These positions require progressively responsible executive fire command experience with a minimum of five years as a Chief Officer in a mid- to large size, all risks fire department, emergency management department, or other public safety executive level position. Wildland/Urban interface fire experience is highly desirable. The Chief will consider experience in lieu of education for internal candidates to the Department; or, Any combination of training, education and experience that is equivalent to one of the patterns listed above and will provide the required knowledge and abilities.

The annual base salary for Deputy Fire Chief positions is up to $226,075, dependent on qualifications and experience. The County also offers a comprehensive benefits package.
