A national search is underway to attract the next Police Chief to lead the City of Bexley Police Department (BPD) in Bexley, Ohio, with the highest levels of professionalism, integrity, transparency, and accountability. The Chief will oversee BPD and its 32 sworn officers and 6 FTE professional support staff for a total allocation of 38. The Department is funded with an annual budget of over $5.8 million. The Police Chief serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Police Department and is directly responsible for the administration, efficiency, and general conduct of all Department community policing, law enforcement, and holistic crime prevention activities. Additional responsibilities include policy development, program planning, fiscal management, and administration/operation of the three Department subdivisions. The Chief is expected to lead with integrity, have exceptional communication skills, and work closely with and under the guidance of the Mayor.
The Chief shall have graduated from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of supervisory experience with a police department and the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for the efficient and effective operation of the department.
The selected candidate will be required to successfully complete all Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy certification requirements within the first year of employment. Peace officers from other states may be eligible for reciprocity/credit for previous training that can be applied to Ohio’s peace officer requirements.
