The City of Palm Springs is seeking a Director of Building & Safety to head the City’s Department of Building and Code Enforcement (18 full time staff and a budget of $3.2 Million). The Director of Building & Safety acts as the Chief Building Official for the City, overseeing and participating in the management of a comprehensive building inspection program. Serving at the pleasure of the City Manager, the Director of Building & Safety is responsible for planning, directing, managing, and overseeing the activities and operations of the Department, which includes inspecting building construction, investigating code violations, and issuing building permits. Candidates must possess a minimum of 6 years of increasingly responsible experience in public administration, construction, building code enforcement, and plan checking or engineering which includes 3 years of administrative and supervisory experience. A Bachelor’s degree in structural inspection, structural engineering, construction management, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree is desirable. Possession of, or the ability to obtain within one year of hire, a Building Official Certification from the International Code Council is required. The annual salary range for the Director of Building & Safety is up to $138,408 DOQ. The City also offers an attractive benefits package including CalPERS retirement.
