The City of South Lake Tahoe is offering an exciting opportunity for professionals with a demonstrated ability to lead and manage professional firefighters. Under general administrative direction of the City Manager, the Fire Chief plans, organizes, directs, and reviews the activities and operations of the Fire Department including fire prevention and suppression, public education, emergency medical services, and other activities designed to protect lives and property. The Department operates out of two stations with full-time staffing of 32 personnel. The Department is organized into five budget divisions: Administration, Suppression, Special Operations, Training and Safety, and Emergency Medical Services.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of increasingly responsible municipal or public fire service experience, including three years of management and administrative responsibilities and command level experience at the rank of Battalion Chief or greater. Possession of a California or Nevada driver’s license and possession of Fire Officer Certification is also required. Certification and coursework from the National Fire Academy or equivalent is desirable. The annual salary range for the position is $151,842 to $184,028. The City offers a compensation package that consists of base pay plus a contribution to a 457/401(A) Deferred Compensation Plan.
