The City of Coronado is seeking qualified applicants to serve as the Director of Recreation and Golf Services for this beautiful and historic beachside community in San Diego County. Rich in history, natural beauty, and a charming ocean village atmosphere, Coronado is most deserving of its royal “nickname” – the Crown City. The City is governed by a Mayor and four Council members who serve staggered four-year terms. The City employs 250 full-time employees and a seasonal/temporary workforce that ranges between 100 and 200 throughout the year. The City has a General Fund revenue of $66 million, a total operating budget of approximately $107 million, and an underlying AAA rating from Moody’s.
Under general administrative direction, to plan, direct, manage and oversee the activities and operations of the Recreation and Golf Services Department including the golf course, aquatics programs, community recreation activities and facilities and tennis/pickleball services; to coordinate assigned activities with other departments and outside agencies; to deliver high quality and responsive service to the community; and to provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the City Manager.
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public administration, business administration, recreation administration or a related field. A Master’s degree in one of these areas is desirable. Six years of increasingly responsible recreation program administration experience including three years of management and administrative responsibility.
The City of Coronado offers a competitive compensation package. Salary is open depending on qualifications and experience. The current Recreation and Golf Services classification salary range is $13,404.23- $15,994.97 monthly, including an excellent benefits package including CalPERS retirement.
