The City of Fresno is offering a unique and exceptional opportunity for Director of Public Utilities. This at will (unclassified) position serves at the pleasure of the City Manager. Day-to-day oversight and direction may also be received through the Assistant City Manager. Oversight responsibility of the Director of Public Utilities includes management of the municipal utility system and providing the overall direction for daily operation, capital projects, infrastructure needs, long-range planning, maintenance, and fiscal management. The Department of Public Utilities has a 2021-2022 Fiscal Year Budget of $312 million allocated for all activities and includes funding for 589 full-time equivalent employees. The Department of Public Utilities has three water treatment plants, 260 water supply wells, and 1,800 miles of water line; a regional water reclamation facility, two recycled water treatment plants, and 1,600 miles of collection system; three cart service for 114,000 residential accounts. This top candidate will be an experienced utility executive (or have held a supporting high-level position in the second position) with a proven record of accomplishment in managing a mid-to-large complex utility enterprise.
Requires a Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of progressively responsible and recent high-level experience managing a mid-to-large public utility enterprise as a Director or, alternatively, an Assistant Director or Division Head in a large-scale public or private utility operation may also be well suited to this position. A Master’s Degree is desirable. Applicants with a professional license in the engineering, water resources, or other applicable areas may be favorably received based on overall career experience.
Annual salary for this position $136,668 to $196,128 DOQ. The City of Fresno also offers an excellent benefit program including Fresno City Retirement System. Moving and relocation assistance may be offered.
