The Los Angeles Unified School District is offering an amazing opportunity for an experienced professional to act as the lead negotiator and spokesperson for one of the nation’s most innovative and diverse school districts. Reporting directly to the General Counsel and the Deputy General Counsel, the Director of Labor Relations will act as the lead negotiator for the District in employment and labor relations matters and will represent the District and coordinate complex labor negotiations regarding terms and conditions of employment for LAUSD’s 66,000 employees represented by twelve collective bargaining units. In addition to supervising and providing work direction to the five member staff of the Office of Labor Relations, the Director will interact with the Superintendent to provide interpretation and implementation of labor contracts, developing and implementing long-term plans and goals focused on maintaining an effective labor relationship program for the District. The successful candidate will be a highly skilled relationship builder who has extensive knowledge of labor law, familiarity with the Public Employment Relations Board, and Educational Employment Relations Act as well as an understanding of the District’s mission, goals, structure, and operational activities.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience in professional personnel administration or other equivalent with 3 years of the required experience in performing labor relations duties and labor negotiations along with management responsibility that required oversight of multiple projects through assigned administrators and supervisors. A master’s degree is preferred.
The annual salary range for the position is $204,216 to $217,428 DOQ. Additionally, the District offers a benefits package, including CalPERS.
