The City of Palm Springs is seeking a Director of Human Resources. The Department of Human Resources has a staff of 8 employees, including the Director, and has a current FY operating budget of $18 Million. Serving at the pleasure of the City Manager (recently selected), the Director of Human Resources is responsible for ensuring overall accountability for effective operations and control of the City’s HR programs, including administration, classification and compensation, benefits, employee relations, labor negotiations, employment services, leave management, worker’s compensation and safety, training and education, reporting and auditing, and other HR management programs. In addition, this position will ensure responsible processes, procedures and oversight of departmental fiscal policies and budgets, and develop and encourage a positive working environment.
Requires a Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of increasingly responsible human resources experience, which includes 3 years of experience at a management level with supervisory responsibility of professional staff. Experience should also include labor or employee relations, developing and implementing policies and practices in a public sector agency, knowledge of California public sector laws and government codes, and experience with CalPERS regulations. Additionally, a Master’s degree is preferred and IPMA-CP certification is desired.
The annual salary for this position is up to $181,512 DOE/DOQ. A 2.5% salary increase is scheduled for July 1, 2021. The City also offers an attractive benefits package including CalPERS retirement.
