The City of Redding is seeking a Director of Electric Utility to provide general management of the City’s electric utility. Redding Electric Utility is an enterprise department within the City of Redding and as a result receives no general fund dollars for operation. The annual budget is approximately $165 million with a complement of 199 staff in a variety of functions. Under administrative direction from the City Manager, the Director of Electric Utility provides general direction for all work related to the design, engineering, construction, maintenance, and operation of the Electric Utility Department’s facilities, including generation, transmission, and distribution. Additionally, the Director of Electric Utility recommends revenue requirements and rate structures consistent with sound business principles and City policies and acts as the City’s primary interface with other electric utilities. Top contenders for this position will have a professional history with an electric utility (public or private).

Requires a Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of relevant experience in increasingly responsible engineering, finance, or management positions in the electric utility industry with at least 2 years in a direct supervisory or managerial position. An advanced engineering or business degree may be substituted for up to 2 years of the experience requirement. Although California experience is highly regarded in this position, all qualified candidates on a national level are strongly encouraged to submit credentials for consideration.

The annual salary range for this position is up to $267,912 DOQ. In addition, the City offers a comprehensive benefits package including CalPERS retirement.
