The City of Palm Springs is seeking a Director of Building & Safety to head the City’s Department of Building and Code Enforcement (13 full time staff members and a budget of $3 million). The Director of Building & Safety acts as the Chief Building Official for the City, overseeing and participating in the management of a comprehensive building inspection program. Serving at the pleasure of the City Manager, the Director of Building & Safety is responsible for planning, directing, managing, and overseeing the activities and operations of the Department, which includes inspecting building construction, investigating code violations, and issuing building permits.
Requires a minimum of 6 years of increasingly responsible experience in public administration, construction, building code enforcement, and plan checking or engineering which includes 3 years of administrative and supervisory experience. A Bachelor’s degree in structural inspection, structural engineering, construction management, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree is desirable. Possession of, or the ability to obtain within one year of hire, a Building Official Certification from the International Code Council is required.
The annual salary range for the Director of Building & Safety is up to $151,344 DOE/DOQ (plus a 2.5% increase in June 2020). The City also offers an attractive benefits package including CalPERS retirement.
