The City of Burleson is recruiting nationally for a talented and accomplished planning professional to lead its Development Services Department. On the southern edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth growth area, many exciting developments lie ahead for Burleson and the next Director can have a significant hand in helping to shape the City’s future. Reporting to the City Manager, the Development Services Director directs the work of the Planning team and Building Permits/Inspection team as it relates to new development projects, recruitment of new businesses, evaluation of existing codes and ordinances, implementation of long-range planning initiatives, and communication with the development community. The Development Services Department is organized into two divisions: Planning and Building/Inspections. The Planning Division is led by an Assistant Director who oversees a Senior Planner and a Planner. The Building/Inspections Division is led by a Building Official who oversees a Senior Building Inspector, two Building inspectors, a Plans Examiner, and a Building Permit Specialist. The FY 2021 budget for the Department is $1.75 million.
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in City Planning, Public Administration, Economic Development, or a related field from an accredited school or university. A Master’s degree in Planning, Public Administration, or a related field is desirable. Five or more years of experience in City Planning, Public Administration, Economic Development, or a related field. An AICP certification is desired, but not required.
The salary for the Development Services Director is $175,000 – $190,000, including an excellent benefits package.
