The City of Denton is conducting a search for two talented, driven, and dedicated municipal attorneys to serve as Deputy City Attorneys. The selected candidates will enjoy working for a progressive local government located in one of the most economically prosperous areas in the nation. The City Attorney’s Office (CAO) is comprised of 14 full-time employee (FTE) positions: 9 attorneys and 5 legal support staff. The CAO’s 2017/2018 fiscal year budget is $2.5 million, which constitutes 0.2% of the City’s Total Budget and 2% of the City’s General Fund Budget. The attorneys are categorized into two divisions, Transactions and Litigation, with each division headed by a First Assistant City Attorney. Reporting to the City Attorney, the Deputy City Attorneys are responsible for delivering superlative legal advice and services in a highly complex and fast paced municipal law environment. One Deputy City Attorney will specialize in land use and planning matters, while the other will be a generalist in municipal matters. A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and eight years of progressively responsible experience in municipal law is required. Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job is considered qualifying. The salary range for the Deputy City Attorney is $100,335 to $166,556 annually, with an anticipated starting salary of up to $140,000, depending on qualifications.
