The City of Rancho Palos Verdes is looking for an outgoing, innovative, and creative public works professional that thrives on being challenged with exciting and unique projects to join their team as the next Deputy Director of Public Works. The Deputy Director is second-in-command to the Public Works Director and is responsible for overseeing the City’s Capital Improvement Program. The work includes an annual update of the 5-year CIP as well as overseeing design and construction of the various projects. This is a great opportunity to build a career with fascinating keystone projects like the design and construction of a new Civic Center featuring City Hall and working with a team of consulting engineers on developing a remediation plan to slow down the Portuguese Bend Landslide, the largest continuously moving landslide in North America.

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way would be possession of a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction technology or management, business or public administration, or a related field, and 4 years of management and/or administrative experience in civil engineering, municipal public works maintenance, or related field. Possession of a valid registration as a PE in the State of California is desirable.

The salary for the Deputy Director of Public Works is up to $190,208, with a salary range of $112,337 to $190,208, DOQ. The City of Rancho Palos Verdes is currently conducting a comprehensive classification and compensation study which may result in an adjustment to the salary range. The City of Rancho Palos Verdes is offering a $15,000 recruitment incentive paid in three increments (25% payable on the first paycheck; 25% upon successful completion of 12 months of employment; and final 50% paid upon completion of 24 months of employment). In addition to the salary, the City offers a generous comprehensive benefits package including CalPERS retirement.
