The Austin Communications and Technology Management Department is high performing, focused on customer service, and plays heavily into Austin’s overall goal to be the Best Managed City. Under general direction from the Chief Information Officer, the Deputy Director is accountable for the day to day operations for the Communications and Technology Management Department. Significant functional areas of oversight include applications development, IT project office, quality assurance, GIS, CTECC, public safety support, wireless operations, and infrastructure services. The annual operating budget for the Communications and Technology Management Department is $115 million. This budget funds 322 FTEs, across six locations within the City of Austin. A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university, with major coursework in a related field is required for this position. At least four years of related experience managing complex Information Technology and public safety/public service organization units, of which three years include managerial experience, or eight years of senior IT operational management experience are also required. The anticipated starting salary is +/- $150,000, depending on career experience and qualifications.
