Nevada County, California is currently recruiting an experienced legal executive to act as County Counsel. This at-will position, supported by a term-employment agreement, reports directly to the Board of Supervisors with frequent interaction and involvement with the County Executive Officer. With a 2019-2020 proposed budget of approximately $1.5 million, the County Counsel Office has a staff of 7. While overseeing this small legal office, the County Counsel also provides professional legal services and advice to the Board of Supervisors, the County Executive Officer, County departments, special districts, and commissions on civil and administrative legal matters. The ideal candidate for this position will have Specific experience working with land use, general and specific plans, California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). This position requires graduation from an accredited law school and 6 years of experience practicing civil or administrative law. Active membership in the California State Bar is also required. This is a well-compensated position and will be supported by a negotiated employment agreement.
