The City of Phoenix is conducting a national search for a Convention Center Director. This is a rare opportunity for a highly energized, entrepreneurial, and collaborative leader to guide and oversee the exciting future of the Phoenix Convention Center (PCC) a key department within an award-winning organization, proud of its diverse community, visitors, clients, and top destination activities. The Convention Center Director provides day-to-day management of the Convention Center Department as well as strategic leadership and operates with wide latitude for incorporating sound judgment and best practices under the administrative review of a Deputy City Manager. Specific oversight includes the operation of the Convention Center, parking facilities, and theatrical facilities (Orpheum Theatre and Symphony Hall). Importantly, a key aspect of this position and future focus will be to seamlessly position the PCC organization and facilities for future growth and expansion. The Director leads an office with 21 full-time staff which includes four deputy directors and a Special Project Administrator for City Major Events. The Director has oversight of 191 full-time employees and 62 part-time employees and responsibility for a budget of more than $65 million (FY22-23). In addition, there are approximately 250 non-City employees that work at the PCC representing private service providers.
Requires a Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of highly responsible management experience in directing the operation and maintenance of a convention center, theatrical facilities, or similar public assembly facilities, including supervisory experience is required.
The annual maximum for this position is $228,758. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications with a starting salary around $205,000 to $210,000. The City contributes 9% of salary into 457/401(a) plans with no matching required. Additionally, the City provides an executive benefits package including an annual car allowance of $6,000 and $1,440 annual cell phone allowance.
