The City of Compton is conducting a national search effort for a talented and energetic government finance professional to serve as the new Controller. Reporting to the City Council and working closely with the City Manager, the Controller, provides comprehensive City-wide financial and accounting services, including financial analysis and budgeting, accounting, payroll services, accounts payables services, auditing, expenditures, internal controls, and financial reporting for the City. This position provides expert professional assistance and guidance to management on financing, revenue management, accounting, and related matters, and advises the Mayor and City Council on long-term financial planning and policy matters. The Controller provides leadership for a staff of 16 total positions, including three direct reports. The ideal candidate for this position will have outstanding leadership, collaborative and creative problem-solving skills, and possess significant financial experience in a local government organization.
Requires a Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of progressively responsible financial management experience in a diverse organization with oversight of accounting and budgeting operations; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Public sector experience and a Master’s degree are highly desirable.
The annual salary range for this position is $148,872 to $174,564 DOQ. Benefits, including CalPERS (2.7% @ 55 for Classic members and 2% @ 62 for new members). The City pays both the employer and employee contribution for Classic members. Additionally, the City participates in CalPERS Health Beneﬁt Services with choice of eleven health plans and separate dental options. The City pays 100% of Kaiser Region 3 for Employee + 2 or more dependents. Plus, after five years of service retiree lifetime medical insurance is offered.
