Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency (“SCV Water” or “Agency”) is conducting an extensive statewide search for a Communications Manager with the vision and experience to manage the Agency’s outreach, education, and communications strategy. Under the leadership of the Assistant General Manager, the Communications Manager is responsible for developing and implementing SCV Water’s media relations, public affairs, and internal and external communication programs and serves a critical role in keeping the executive leadership team, elected officials, the public, and other stakeholders informed on the Agency’s programs, events, and projects. This career opportunity is the result of a pending retirement in June 2023. The Communications Manager will oversee 12 talented and dedicated professionals within four core areas – outreach, public information, public affairs, and education. This position serves a vital role in being the liaison and key staff assigned to the Agency’s Public Outreach and Legislation Committee which consists of four members of the SCV Water’s Board of Directors. The ideal candidate will guide and implement the strategy for all communications, website, public relations, and social media to consistently articulate SCV Water’s mission, vision, goals, and objectives.

Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for a Communications Manager. A typical way would be to possess: a Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the communications or public relations field with at least 1 year supervising staff. A Master’s degree is desirable but not required. Experience in local government setting is ideal although candidates from the non-profit sector or private sector are also strongly encouraged to apply for consideration.

The annual salary range for this position is $144,289 to $175,780 and will be based on qualifications and experience. This position does qualify for relocation assistance. SCV Water offers a flexible workplace policy with a hybrid schedule for this position with 2 days required in the office each week based on a 9/80 workweek.
