Ideally located in the very desirable San Francisco Bay Area, the City of Vallejo is conducting a statewide search for its next City Attorney. The City of Vallejo’s Office of the City Attorney is a full-service office with robust capabilities and exciting professional challenges. With 121,000 residents, Vallejo is the largest city in Solano County and the tenth most populous in the Bay Area. The City Attorney’s office is staffed with 13 members, including 8 attorneys and 5 administrative support positions. Direct reports to the City Attorney include a Chief Assistant City Attorney, an Assistant City Attorney II, and the Law Office Supervisor. The FY 19-20 budget for the City Attorney’s Office is $1.8 million. The City Attorney and City Manager are the only direct reports to the City Council.
Any combination of equivalent experience and education that provides the required knowledge and abilities would qualify. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be with equivalent to graduation from a college or university with a Juris Doctorate degree; Five years of experience in the active practice of public law in the State of California. Extensive experience in a municipal setting in the active practice of law, including litigation, is desirable. Active membership in the State Bar of California and admittance to practice before all State and applicable Federal District Courts in California is required.
The City will offer a highly competitive salary, DOQ, in addition to an excellent benefit package. The incumbent City Attorney earned $219,000 annually.
