The City of Denton is conducting a search for a talented, driven, and dedicated municipal attorney to serve as an Assistant or Deputy City Attorney. The selected candidate will enjoy working for a progressive local government located in one of the most economically prosperous areas in the nation. The City of Denton offers candidates who are driven by professional challenge the opportunity to practice in an environment that will expose them to aspects of municipal law not found in other cities. The City Attorney’s Office (CAO) is comprised of 15 full-time employee (FTE) positions: 10 attorneys and 5 legal support staff. The CAO’s 2019/2020 fiscal year budget is $2.8 million, which constitutes 0.2% of the City’s Total Budget and 2% of the City’s General Fund Budget. Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job is qualifying. A typical way to obtain these qualifications is with a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and eight years of progressively responsible experience in municipal law. The salary range for the Assistant City Attorney is $78,000 to $98,000 annually, and the salary range for the Deputy City Attorney is $125,000 to $130,000. The City may hire either position, depending on qualifications.
