The City of Scottsdale, Arizona is offering an exciting career opportunity for a top municipal executive to assist and support the City Manager in planning, directing, and reviewing the activities and operations of the City. The Assistant City Manager (one of three ACMs in the organization) will be responsible for providing ethical leadership and management for several City departments, with oversight of both staff and budget, tailored to best utilize career experience already gained in local government. This is a newly created position, and the selected candidate will join a collaborative and high-performance team, focused on the exceptional service delivery in this thriving and beautiful desert setting. The City currently has a total of 2,696 employees, which includes 2,241 full-time employees and 455 part-time employees, with total adopted compensation costs of $344.7 million. The City is in a strong financial position with an operating budget of $739 million, a capital budget of $1.4 billion, and contingency and reserves of $556.4 million.

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 10 years of executive level municipal management experience. An equivalent combination of education and job-related experience may substitute for the educational requirements on a year-for-year basis. Preferred experience includes track record of leadership and management in a public organization; strong writing and communication skills; ability to effectively network with stakeholders, other local agencies and regional partners; experience with the legislative process and working in support of elected officials; and keen knowledge and understanding of current and future issues that impact municipal organizations.

The salary range for this position is $155,126 to $225,576. The City anticipates hiring at or below the midpoint of the range. The City of Scottsdale offers a benefit package including membership to Arizona State Retirement System.
