The City of Glendale, California is currently conducting a statewide recruitment effort for aspiring professionals to join the City of Glendale’s legal team in the capacity of either Principal Assistant City Attorney, Senior Assistant City Attorney, Assistant City Attorney, or Deputy City Attorney, depending on qualifications. This current outreach is aimed to fill a key legal vacancy under the direction City Attorney with experience dealing with public agency power operations. Glendale is a full-service city supported by approximately 1,600 full-time staff and a FY 2022-23 Total Budget of $ 1.1 billion. The City serves over 88,000 electric customers and is in the process of repowering its power plant with newer, more efficient engines. The City Attorney’s Office provides a full range of dedicated, in-house legal services and consists of two primary sections: Litigation and Risk Management and Departmental Support Services. The Principal Assistant City Attorney, Senior Assistant City Attorney, Assistant City Attorney, and Deputy City Attorney serve under the direction of the City Attorney. The positions of Principal Assistant City Attorney and Senior Assistant City Attorney are distinguished by increased responsibilities from the Assistant City Attorney and Deputy City Attorney and a greater degree of independence and decision-making abilities, as well as the difficulty and complexity of work performed. The position will provide primary legal support relating to the electric power matters impacting the City.
Requires graduation from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association or the equivalent. Requires admission to practice law in California and United States District Court, Central District and membership in the California State Bar. Minimum Required Experience for Principal Assistant City Attorney is 6 years of experience in the practice of municipal law; Senior Assistant City Attorney is 4 years of experience in the practice of municipal law; Assistant City Attorney is 3 years of experience in the practice of municipal law; and Deputy City Attorney is 1 year of experience in the practice of municipal law.
The annual compensation for Principal Assistant City Attorney is $138,805 to $201,925; Senior Assistant City Attorney is $124,399 to $180,932; Assistant City Attorney is $108,512 to $157,843; and Deputy City Attorney is $86,517 to $125,865. Placement within the range will be dependent on the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant. The City is prepared to pay above the mid-point for top contenders.
