The City of Tucson this week announced the selection of Charles (Chuck) Ryan as the 28th chief of the Tucson Fire Department (TFD). Incoming Chief Ryan will start work Sept. 30.

A competitive, nationwide search and complete assessment process was held to fill the position. Chief Ryan has worked in fire service since 1994, having served most recently an assistant fire chief with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department in Virginia.

Chief Ryan will be taking on the leadership and management of the 32nd busiest department in the country and the second largest department in the State of Arizona. The ISO Class 1-rated Tucson Fire Department operates 22 fire stations and has 632 uniformed and 49 non-sworn personnel on staff.
