The City of Reno has announced the hire of Arlo Stockham as the new Director of Community Development. Stockham will begin his employment with the City on February 25, 2019.

The Director of Community Development manages the department and leads the City of Reno’s efforts on a broad range of issues including urban planning, new development engineering, licensing of businesses and construction permitting.

Stockham comes to the City of Reno from Stockham Consulting, where he has served as President since 2009. In that role, he provided complex planning and management services for public and private sector clients. These initiatives included water rights and land transactions, development projects, conservation easements, property studies, environmental restoration projects and public agency land use plans.

“Mr. Stockham brings a wealth of regional planning experience to the City of Reno,” City Manager Sabra Newby said. “In addition, earlier in his career he worked with the City of Reno for seven years in a variety of different planning roles, including as a manager. We are excited to welcome him back, especially at a time when development decisions are so critical to our growing community.”

“I very much look forward to returning to the City of Reno,” Stockham said. “I want Reno’s residents and businesses to know that their opinions matter to me, and I would like to hear from as many people as possible as I settle into this position. I hope to oversee a smoothly functioning development review process and a zoning code update with broad community support.”

In addition to his roles with Stockham Consulting and the City of Reno, he was also the Regional Planning Manager for the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) and the project manager for the 2012 Lake Tahoe Regional Plan and Code update.

Stockham earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography from the University of Nevada, Reno and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.
