The attack targeted major businesses, hospitals, and universities across the globe. Luckily, a cyber researcher in the UK managed to contain the attack before it got too much traction in America; but Russia, China, India, and many European countries suffered significant damage.
Ransomware is a very real threat – not just to large companies and organizations – but also to the average individual. Since the beginning of 2016, more than 4,000 ransomware attacks have occurred every day. This statistic represents a 300% increase over 2015. (Gammons, 2017)
