The ideal candidate for the Director of Planning will
be a strategic and innovative thinker with a keen understanding of planning
laws, who is comfortable operating in a robust and dynamic planning
environment. Departmental oversight responsibility ($25.8M budget; 197
staff) includes the unincorporated areas outside the jurisdictional
boundaries of cities within Los Angeles County representing more than
1 million residents or one-tenth of the County's total population and
two-thirds of the land area. This top professional planner will be a
visionary and proactive leader in the field of planning with a results-oriented
and a hands-on leadership approach, able to engage the public and communicate
effectively with diverse communities. Requires a minimum of 5 years
of progressively responsible management experience in a governmental
or private planning organization, agency, or firm, including at least
2 years of senior managerial experience. This recruitment is a national

is required; Master's degree and AICP certification is desirable. Annual
salary range is $153,601 to $232,488 with outstanding benefits package
including Los Angeles County Employee Retirement Association (LACERA),
