The City of Goleta (population 30,000) is seeking qualified candidates who would be interested in serving as its first Library Director as the City takes over management and operation of this beloved community institution. The new Library Director will have a unique opportunity to establish the “corporate culture” of the Goleta Library for decades to come.
Goleta is located on the beautiful Santa Barbara County coast, ten miles west of Santa Barbara. The City was recently rated by CNN’s Money as one of the country’s “Best Places to Live.” Goleta is located adjacent to the University of California, Santa Barbara, home to six Nobel Prize winners and one of the leading research universities in America. The community hosts a number of high technology businesses specializing in aerospace, nanotechnology, environmental science, biochemistry, and information technology.
The new Library Department will become operational on July 1, 2018. It will have an annual budget of $1.5 million, and a full-time staff of six, assisted by 16 part-time employees (equivalent to 10 FTEs). The Library serves a population of approximately 92,000 people; has an annual circulation of 645,000; and hosts 262,000 patrons annually. The Goleta Library is a member of the Black Gold Cooperative Library System.
Preferred qualifications include graduation from an American Library Association accredited college or university with a master’s degree in Library Science and ten or more years of increasingly responsible professional and managerial library experience, including at least five years of supervisory experience.
The salary range for the Library Director is $141,544 to $180,650. The City offers a comprehensive benefits package.
