The Los Angeles
County Office of Education (LACOE) provides a variety of services throughout
the County as an “intermediate agency”. This chief legal
advisor provides an array of legal services to the Superintendent, the
Board of Education, the Personnel Commission, and other members of the
Executive Cabinet. The General Counsel must be a critical thinker as
well as a strong manager with outstanding interpersonal and leadership
skills to address a full range of issues involving transactional matters,
employment, personnel, civil and criminal law. The General Counsel also
provides advice on policy interpretation, as well as advising officials
of their rights and obligations in compliance with statutory levels
of authority pursuant to the California Education Code. Other areas
of law include Brown Act and conflict of interest interpretations. Candidates
must be an active member of the California State Bar Association or
have the ability to become a member within six months of employment.
Salary range up to $175,392 plus comprehensive benefits plan including
CalPERS Retirement (2.5%@55). LACOE is dedicated to equal employment
