A national search
effort is underway to identify a dynamic, highly qualified, and technically
competent leader to serve as Fire Marshal. This key position reports
directly to the Fire Chief and will coordinate and direct a staff of
approximately 30 highly skilled professionals and all activities for
the Fire Prevention Division. Responsibilities include all fire inspections,
plans review, arson investigation, and public education. The new Fire
Marshal will serve on the Fire Rescue executive staff, and participate
in Fire Rescue policy and procedure development. The Fire Marshal will
also respond to and assume command roles at major fires, hazardous materials,
and mass casualty incidents. Desirable qualifications include a Bachelor degree and Florida certification as a Firefighter, a Florida driver’s license class D with “E” endorsement, and 5 or more years as a fire rescue officer, having obtained at least the rank of Battalion Chief or equivalent. A combination of a certification in a fire rescue related field and 10 years of progressively responsible experience as a fire rescue officer may be substituted. The
successful candidate may have up to 2 years to obtain a Florida Firefighter
Minimum Standards Certification. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue
provides a highly competitive compensation package and salary commensurate
with experience and qualifications. The salary range is $70,304 to $105,435.
