The City of Sacramento is conducting a statewide search for a City Attorney who is a high-energy, innovative leader to join a highly collaborative team that truly enjoys working together to advance the City Council’s priorities. Sacramento is a charter city operating under the council/manager form of government with 4,484 FTEs and a 2016/17 total budget of $961 million. In addition to serving as chief legal advisor to the City Council, the City Attorney manages a fast-paced, robust legal office (staffed with a total of 30 attorneys and 20 support staff) and oversees a multitude of legal issues including litigation. The ideal candidate will work well with elected and appointed officials and have a style that supports an active and involved City Council that appreciates highly communicative and engaging professionals. This position requires a Juris Doctor degree, membership with the California State Bar, and 5 years of supervisory analytical work in a city attorney or county counsel’s office including two years of management level experience. Additionally, the City Attorney will have a reputation for strategic and decisive legal leadership with a strong foundation built on local government legal experience in California.
