A national search is underway to attract highly qualified candidates to lead the Fairfield, California Police Department. This is an incredible opportunity for an experienced leader to guide an innovative and progressive police department with an excellent reputation as a quality police agency. With an annual operating budget of $41 million, the Police Chief will work in partnership with the community (population 115,000) and the department (123 sworn staff and 69 non-sworn staff) to enhance the quality of life through effective crime prevention, safety education, and innovative law enforcement. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and be an effective communicator who can provide thoughtful solutions to complex matters, bridge gaps, and build consensus. A Bachelor’s degree along with 7 years of increasingly responsible command experience in municipal police work including 4 years of supervisory and management responsibility is required; a Master’s degree and completion of advanced police management coursework is considered a plus. The salary for this at-will position is currently under review and is supplemented by a generous benefit package including CalPERS retirement. The previous Police Chief’s salary was $195,000.
