The Director of
Public Works for Calaveras County (population 48,000) is an appointed
department head position, serving at the pleasure of the Board of Supervisors.
The Director of Public Works oversees a department of 85 experienced
staff, a budget of over $16 million, and a capital project budget exceeding
$20 million over the next five years. The Department incorporates a
wide variety of important County programs such as the Public Works County
Survey and Solid Waste division, and coordinates work related design,
construction, maintenance, and repair of County highways, roads, bridges,
and related structures. Applicants should have an advanced working knowledge
of the principles and practices of a municipal organization including
budget development and administration. Requires equivalent to graduation
with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
and five years of responsible administration or supervisory experience
in a variety of public works activities. A Master’s degree may
be substituted for up to two years of the required experience. Registration
as a civil engineer in California is considered a plus. The selected
candidate must possess and maintain a valid California driver’s
license. Salary up to $110,011 DOQ with excellent benefits package including
PERS (2% @ 55) and a County-use vehicle.
